Gallstones and Gallbladder problems

The gallbladder is a small organ attached to the liver. It is found in the top right-hand corner of the abdomen under the ribcage.

The gallbladder stores a fluid called bile which is important for digestion.

Gallstones often cause no symptoms but they can cause pain or discomfort(called biliary colic) and  infection and inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis).  Rarely gallstones can cause jaundice or inflammation of the pancreas gland (pancreatitis).

If you have problems related to gallstones it is often advisable to have the  gallbladder and gallstones removed with keyhole surgery .

One of our team of surgeons will be happy to discuss you symptoms and explain more about  gallbladder removal surgery.
